  • The tour may involve beehives, with participants wearing the appropriate protective gear. Visitors will learn about the structure of hives, about the lives and hierarchy of the bees, about ancient and modern ways of extracting honey, as well as various beekeeping products. They will also learn about how to identify real and high-quality honey.
  • There are tastings of various types of honey, with visitors purchasing the honey which they like the most. The honey is gathered at various times of year and from various plants. Some farms sell not just honey, but also other beekeeping products.
  • Visitors are encouraged to take part in various processes, among which the most popular is the production of wax candles. Visitors can take the candles which they make home with them.

Herbal teas and honey TURAIDAS

This farm produces herbal teas and satchels of tea from lemon balm, raspberries, tansy, lady's mantles, plantago and linden blossoms as souvenirs and gifts, as well as honey from local hives.  The lady of the house will be happy to tell you about life in the countryside and take you on an educational tour featuring medicinal plants, beekeeping and fence buildings.  She will also offer tastings of products from the farm.  It has a biological farming certificate, so much attention is focused on the popularisation of a healthy lifestyle.  Clients can purchase teas made of raspberries, blackberries, linden blossoms, meadowsweet, yarrow, birch leaves, white nettles, etc.

Rural Homestead of Janis Sicans

By the beekeeping farm “Kalniņi” there is a Bee Hut – small wooden house in which you can feel the presence of bees. The hives with seven bee families are built-in the sides of the Bee Hut, but inside the building they are designed as beds or seats. When looking at the building from the outside you can see the bee runs and also bees themselves. In addition, “Kalniņi” also offer different types of bee products – honey, pollen bread, beautiful and aromatic wax candles. It is possible to taste beekeeping products and enjoy a cap of warm tea. Families with kids can participate in educational workshops, learn how to make wax candles and gain information about the daily life in the beekeeping farm.

Since summer 2018 everyone can also visit the House of Crafts, where you can participate in different activities such as Encaustic painting (also known as hot wax painting), create wooden souvenirs with burnt folk signs as well as create wax candles etc. The House of Crafts offers different itineraries for grownups, kids, youngsters and newlyweds. There you can also purchase the offered products - various flower honey, pollen, pollen bread, propolis, cell honey and wax candles.

The owner of the Vālodzes farm is a beekeeper.  The farm is on the banks of a lovely river in a place where a homestead existed long ago.  The hive are on a hillock and in a lovely meadow in the forest.  Alongside the bees is a lovely apple orchard, and the owner is happy to have help in harvesting the apples in the fall.  He has slowly restored the farm since 1996, and it has a lovely and large lake, a lake hut, a granary with a renovated upper floor and balcony, the beekeeping operation and the apple orchard.
