  • Special programmes are offered to visitors, with meals, stories about holiday and everyday traditions, and songs. Sometimes visitors are involved in preparing the food.
  • Menus use local names for dishes along with explanations and a discussion of the local dialect.
  • Providers of Latvian foods also use ethnographic styles for interior design, as well as dishes, furniture, textiles, etc., from local craftspeople.

The “Maza kaija” saloon

The saloon is on the seashore with a summer terrace that offers a lovely view of seaside meadows and shallows. The saloon works with local farmers and fishermen.

Latvian cuisine: Cold soup, beef with onions, new potatoes with chanterelle sauce, roast tench and pike, strawberry soup.

Brewery BRENGUL‎U ALUS

The garden is opposite the Brenguļi brewery, where unfiltered and unpasteurised beers are made from locally grown grains and on the basis of the knowledge of ancestors. The beer garden offers light and dark Brenguļi beer, as well as Latvian dishes.

Latvian cuisine: Grey peas with bacon, sausages with cabbage, Rūjiena ice cream.

RESTAURANT PILSBERGU KROGS

The “Pilsbergu krogs” guesthouse and café is 300 metres from the steep shores of Jūrkalne. It is in an historical building that has been restored. The Restaurant is open for the whole year. Foods from European cuisine as well as local dishes like local fish are served. Catering for tourist groups, banquet hall for up to 30 persons, restaurant hall for 25 persons and summer terrace for 30 persons.

The Lejasmalas leisure base is on the banks of Lake Leja with a beautiful view of islands in the lake.  It offers Lettigalian dishes made of locally soured products.

Café and bread museum KUKABURRA

The “Kukaburra” café is located on the 115th km of the Riga-Veclaicene highway (A2). It is possible to see the Bread museum. Guests can take part in baking rye bread every weekend. The café has a Latvian interior and serves products from local farmers and home-based producers of ingredients.
