Latvian traditional food producers participate in "Gruene Woche", Berlin

02.02.2018

In January 19-28, 2018 we were working in Latvian stand at the "Gruene Woche", the world's largest and most poular annual food exhibition. Te 250 sq.m. stand space was occupied by a variety of food and crafts masters who showed their skills and offered delicious products for tasting.

The staff of Baltic Country Holidays did a good job promoting rural holidays in Latvia and the events to celebrate Latvia's Centenary. Stand visitors were treated with healthy herbal teas and received free postcards with images of rural Latvia to send greetings to their friends right from the stand. We learned a lot from our stand visitors about what they find attractive and enjoyable in our traditional cuisine and will use this knowledge to build new and attractive historical culinary routes like the Livonian Culinary Route coming soon.

The visitors of Latvian stand were presented a variety of unique traditional products for tasting and buying from small local producers. Among them - milk products, fish, meets, juices, honey, sweets, candied fruit and many more.

The stand space was decorated with beautiful images of Latvian nature and architecture, while inside it was full of demonstration activities. One of the most popular Latvian bread baker,  Donu Ilze, was kneading the dough and baking the traditional rye bread right before the visitors. Craftsmen were demonstrating amber works, making toys, carving wood. Craft food masters were present with beer, honey, berries, game meets, natural drinks, ice-cream, teas, etc.

We are proud of the great variety of excellent foods the stand visitors could taste and buy from the food production companies represented in Latvian stand: lamprey from "Kurzeme GB”, fresh cheese, caraway cheese and sweet cheese from “Kārums”, curd from “Smiltenes piens”, green and red flavoured cheese from “Talsu piens”, cod liver cream and red caviar cream from “Rānda”, herring Matje, sprats, and other fish produce from  “Kaija”, sprats and sardines from “Brīvais vilnis” and “Gamma A”, canned moose meet, beef sausages from “Aibi”, a variety of breads - rye, sweet sour, fruit, wallnut and others from "Donas" and "Lāči", smoked sausages, game meats and stewed meets from Rēzekne meet factory, a variety of beers from “Brāļa alus”, PIN UP, “Ilgezeem” Kraftbeer, onian jam from “Warasula”.
