Animals and birds

Adults and children will be able to learn about farm animals, view a collection of ancient tools, enjoy a country sauna with birch and juniper switches, drink herbal tea with honey, and taste carrot buns. During the summer, accommodations are offered in the granary or on the second level of the sauna.

The cafe- guest house Liepas is situated in Akniste. Guests are offered to try a tasty meal prepared from the owners’ and nearby farmsteads’ biologically grown vegetables, lamb and dairy products. Guests are offered to see, and feed the animals living in the biological farmstead of Liepas as well as get advices on sheep breeding, dairy production and agriculture.

Bioloģiskā saimniecība, kas atrodas vienā no Latvijas gleznainākajām vietām – Ogres ielejas dabas parkā. Tiek piedāvāta iepazīšanās ar saimniecību – bioloģisko gaļas liellopu, Charolais šķirnes, audzēšanu. Family farm that is working with poultry and selling eggs for incubation and also for food. In the farm you can see different breed of chickens, pearl chickens, geese and Indian runner ducks. While visiting it is possible to feed the birds and rabbits. During the excursion you can get to know the full cycle from the egg to the grown bird.

On the farm they also grow garlic. Garlic farm is open for visitors. They also grow garlic for further planting.

The farm features twelve friendly horses from Latvia, Lithuania and Belarus, as well as three eager dogs of various species, along with rabbits, chickens, cows and cats. Here you will feel the true country spirit in four adjoining farms – Klajumi, Ganiņi, Ķemeri and Krasti. The location is near the “Rings of the Daugava” Nature Park, and you can go horseback riding along the border between Latvia and Belarus.

Latvian cuisine: Schnitzel of mushrooms, potato dumplings with dried mushrooms or meat, cream sauce and onions, baked chanterelles with new potatoes, sautéed vegetables and mushrooms, strawberries with ice cream, moonshine liquor.

Special foods: Cranberry fool a la Klajumi

The owners of the farm inherited it. There is a wood house with decorative trim and window shutters. The owners use milk from their own cows to produce cheeses on the basis of old and modern recipes. You can taste the cheese, milk, clotted milk, buttermilk and other dairy products, watch how they are made, and take part in the process yourself. There are also animals to view.

Here you will find African ostriches, a South American rhea, an Australian emu, pearl hens, pheasants and peacocks. You can purchase ostrich and other eggs, as well as souvenirs made of eggs and feathers.

The IKS Park organisation offers rural joy, playing around and relaxing at the edge of a forest.  Visitors can engage in crafts, learn about medicinal plants from Latvia in an interactive way and also learn about the properties of same.  There are two different territories.  One is an open-air exhibition of medicinal plants, with six beds of various plants.  Visitors are invited to stroll through the garden and learn about plants that might be useful and appropriate for them.  There is also room for mini-football, a barefoot trail, an “ant trail” that is a relay race with various steps, a pergola and a class to teach about nature.  Second, there is a small farm with workshops and a mini zoo.  Under a large canopy or in a cosy fireplace hall, visitors can try their hand at traditional and modern Latvian crafts.  There is also a chance to play various games, some of which are quite ancient, indeed.  Master craftsmen at the farm offer practical activities that allow visitors to produce their own souvenirs.  Class topics include weaving of blankets from plants, jewellery making, soap making, grinding of flour, etc.

This zoo features sheep, goats, large Chinese pigs, rabbits, various exotic animals and birds. Children love contacts with the various animals, particularly the Japanese macaque which is called Nilsons. The farm has been nominated as a family-friendly place.

One of the largest meat and dairy farms in Kurzeme, with a herd of around 500 heads of cattle. The farm also breeds most of the types of fowl that are known in Latvia. An informative tour is available, and you can purchase meat, milk and eggs.

It is possible to look at African ostriches of different ages; to listen to stories about or of ostriches. It is possible to buy crafts made of ostrich feathers, skin and grease, fresh ostrich eggs.

The sauna and  rest place Raudini is a place where you can rest in a comfortable quiet atmosphere, between the sea and the forest.

You will be able to experience relaxation offered by a wooden-heated sauna, wisping with besoms, enjoying the sauna ritual to its fullest and drinking herbal tea. After the wisping you can cool off in the pond with water lilies and, to finish off your sauna ritual we offer chocolate or honey massages.

Here it is possible to rest with your family or a small circle of friends, preparing a tasty meal on the outdoor terrace on the real wooden stove or fireplace. In the evening you will be able to watch the sunset rays in the tree spires.  It is possible to use tent places  outside for spending the night and wait for the sunrise near the sea. Quiet, peaceful and natural coolness.

Tihuse farm on Muhu Island is engaged in horse breeding; this place also offers authentic food and a special menu for people with various food intolerances. It is very popular to take a horse ride, followed by a picnic. Lentil cakes are our special treat.

The farm breeds goats and grows vegetables. You can take a tour, help to milk the goats, and taste and country goodies such as cheese, bread and pierogi. You can also help to make cheese.

The farmyard offers to see the domestic animals, birds and exotic maras  as well as horse-back riding on a pony. You can get a consultation about gardening and breeding small animals. It is possible to buy quail eggs, smoked meats, chicken and birdlings.

This farm is engaged in dairy farming and rearing chickens; the obtained eggs and milk is processed in its very own dairy plant. You can taste various dairy products, including ice-cream in the farm, and also get to know the entire production process. You can also order meals for a picnic and apply for a dairy product masterclass.

This farm offers tours for children who can become friends of horses, look at Angus cattle and learn about a dairy farm.  The children are transported in a specially adapted cart that is pulled by a tractor.  The farm plans to purchase some alpacas in 2018.

Sēlijā, Zasas muižas parkā, atrodas “Bērzzemnieki”, kur saimnieko Kalnāju ģimene. Atjaunojuši vēsturisko māju un ieveduši staļļos zirgus, ģimene sniedz viesiem iespēju iepazīt zirgus, piedalīties dažādos ikdienas darbos un doties izjādēs, kā arī nakšņot “muižiņā”.

Latvian blackhead sheep are in a clean environment at the Ances farm, which is in the Northern Vidzeme Biosphere Reserve near the border with Estonia.  It is in the Naukšēni Parish, where chemical plant protection substances and mineral fertilisers have never been used intensively.  The sheep roam freely during the winter and summer, with fencing to protect them against wolves and wild boar.  The farm only uses female sheep born as twins or triplets, including animals for genetic resources.  All of the sheep come from German blackhead sheep and are only mated with high-quality LT rams in January, February, August and September.

Go horseback or wagon riding all year long, find contacts with goats, sheep, chickens, turkeys, geese, and ducks, and taste smoked goat cheese. The owner also produces Christmas and other decorations.

Saimnieki piedāvā iegādāties premium klases, saimniecībā audzētu, jēru gaļu un aitu piena produktus- Fetas tipa sieru, grilsieru, jogurtu bez piedevām un vairāku veidu saldējumus.

The farm grows some 25 types of plants and prepares products from approximately 50 types of plants. Visitors will learn about the use of medicinal plants not just in teas, but also in oils, extracts, tinctures, syrups, etc. These can be used for everyday nutrition. Products can be tasted and bought, and you can help out with the farm’s operations. There is also livestock to view.

The farm has vast meadows along the banks of the Aiviekste River, with some 400 head of blackhead sheep – the largest herd of its type in Latvia. You can tour the far and purchase pedigree sheep, meat, wool, pelts and vegetables.

Some 200 fallow deer live in large paddocks at the park, and the largest deer sorting facility in the Baltic States is right next door. You can look at the animals from up close. The owner organises educational camps for children and offers consultations on the breeding of animals.

Saimniecība specializējas kazas piena produktu apstrādē, pieejami dažāda veida svaigie sieri, piens, kefīrs, biezpiens, fetas siers, krēmsiers.

This is the largest herd of alpacas (an animal from the mountainous regions of South America) in the Baltic States. You can observe the animals, listen to stories about them, and buy alpaca wool. There are plans to transfer the herd to the Vīceži Estate in the Lībagi Parish in 2014.
